Care instructions Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Blackberries will produce of their absolute best on a medium, well-drained soil which contains plenty of organic matter. They like the soil to hold a good supply of water, especially when the fruits are developing in summer. The worst soil for a blackberry is light chalky soil - lots of well rotted compost will help to improve these conditions. It is a vigorous plant and need to be spaced at 2 metre intervals in the row. They are best kept on straining wires, and a mature plant will easily cover wires spaced at 30cm intervals to a height of 150 cms.
