Digitalis purpurea 'Dalmation Purple'

foxglove

Photo of Digitalis purpurea 'Dalmation Purple'

£8.99

This variety usually flower in their first year. This purple flowered cultivar forms tidy clumps of foliage, but it is for the wonderful spires of thimble-like flowers that open upwards from the base of the spike in summer, that it is best-loved.

These short lived perennials will happily seed about to create dramatic drifts and attract wildlife to their nectar rich flowers Foxgloves are biennials meaning that it normally requires two years to complete its life-cycle, germinating and growing in its first year, then producing its flowers in its second year, after which it usually dies. However, as it self-seeds freely you will have a ready supply of new plants every year. New seedlings that appear can be easily moved in their first season, while still small. Caution: Harmful if eaten.
