Aquilegia vulgaris

columbine

Photo of Aquilegia vulgaris

£9.00

A beautiful, old-fashioned looking aquilegia with pretty purple flowers from May to July. A classic, cottage perennial suitable for a range of conditions and a perfect 'filler' for the gap between the last of the spring bulbs and the main flush of summer perennials.

  • Perennials

Award of Garden Merit

Hardiness: Hardy

Vigour: Medium growing

  • Beds and borders

Care instructions

Cut back stems after flowering or leave to self-seed. Self-sown aquilegias look charming naturalised amongst shrubs and roses, however, the plants interbreed freely and seedlings are rarely much like the parents. Cut down leaves in autumn, or earlier if affected by fungal diseases.
