Astrantia major 'Star of Love'

Photo of Astrantia major 'Star of Love'

A lovely astrantia with papery, pin-cushion, purple flowers above pretty, deeply lobed, dark green leaves. It flowers from June to August and is a classic cottage garden plant for a moist but well-drained border in dappled shade. However, it will tolerate drier soils as long as it is surrounded with a thick layer of mulch in spring.

Care instructions

Deadhead before seed is ripe to prevent self-seeding. After flowering, plants can be rejuvenated by cutting them back close to the ground - fresh new foliage and a late crop of flowers start appearing shortly after. Spray for mildew during the growing season. Divide in Spring.
